Modified Medical Inpatient Detoxification (MMID)

Alcohol or drug detoxification is often the first step toward addiction recovery. It is important to begin this process with the help of professionally trained medical and addiction specialists who can ensure this period is as safe, comfortable and effective as possible.

Gibson Center offers MMID under the 24/7 care of licensed nursing staff and supervised by a full time Nurse Practitioner and Licensed Physician. Our alcohol and drug detox programs include:

  • Comprehensive physicals, psychiatric evaluations and medical history assessments
  • Experienced staff who are specially trained in the physical and psychological aspects of detoxification and substance abuse
  • Onsite, 24/7 nursing staff that regularly monitors vital signs, runs appropriate labs and tests, and ensures client comfort
  • Evidence-based medications to ease withdrawal symptoms and cravings
  • Warmly decorated, welcoming home-like settings
  • A clinical approach that considers physical, mental and spiritual healing so clients are prepared to begin the work of recovery

MMID is different for everyone, but typically ranges from 3-7 days with less intense, more manageable withdrawal symptoms lingering over weeks or months depending on the individual and substance. A safe, supportive detox experience increases the chances that an individual will stay in treatment and be physically and mentally prepared to begin the work of recovery.

Why is Detoxification Important?

Depending on the substance that’s been abused, the duration it has been used and the physical make-up of the individual, drug and alcohol detox withdrawal symptoms can range from uncomfortable to life-threatening. Medical staff can prescribe safe, scientifically proven medications to alleviate discomfort and help consumers progress to the next stage of recovery.

Withdrawal symptoms depend on the substance and individual, but may include:

  • Convulsions and seizures
  • Intense cravings
  • Psychotic reactions
  • Headaches
  • Stomach pain
  • Fatigue
  • Anxiety or depression
  • Shaking
  • Irritability
  • Cardiac arrest
  • Insomnia
  • Nausea
